Revive and Rebalance Sun-Kissed Skin

Longer, warmer days, air-dried hair, sunsets on the beach — summer months are blissfully carefree, but after a day of soaking up the sun (with SPF of course and these summer makeup tips), we must be sure to give our skin some extra TLC.  We’ve shared and praised the mind and body benefits of moderate daily sun exposure — better sleep, clearer skin, a stronger immune system and more — so while you’re reaping the rewards of Vitamin D, take the extra step in your routine to revive and rebalance that sun-kissed skin.  

Daily sun exposure, while beneficial for our skin, can also take its toll if we overdo it.  It only takes 5-10 minutes of exposure — while wearing sunscreen — to natural sunlight to produce around 5,000 IU of vitamin D, which is enough for most people. So what do you do when you’ve gotten more than your daily dose?  

There are plenty of products out there, and natural techniques that can help cool down and alleviate over-exposed skin.

Relaxing Shower: 

Rinse off the suns' rays and the sand between your toes with a relaxing shower.  Be mindful of the temperature — too cold or too hot will put your body’s temperature regulators into overdrive, but the right, mild temperature will gently steam your pores and cool you off. 

Gently Exfoliate: 

A day in the sun can leave your skin feeling a little sticky. While showering, treat yourself to a gentle scrub to ensure you’re removing all excess SPF, sea salt and perspiration.
